Dry Hide at Shinki Leather

Some sixty-five horse leather tanneries exist in the town of Himeji, where Shinki Hikaku is located. Founded in 1951 and sitting proud above the Ichi River, Shinki is regarded as the only tannery globally that specialises specifically in vegetable-tanned horse leather and shell cordovan.

Salted hides imported from Europe as a by-product of the meat industry are washed, then tanned for up to 5-weeks in open wooden vats with natural Mimosa tree bark. After being dried and stabilised, each hide is infused with natural oils and waxes.

Nume leather as we have used this season retains its natural grain and irregularities while maintaining firmness and structure. R21L3 Boat Shirt in Dry Hide is now available through our stores and stockists.
